The Millennium Alliance is an inclusive platform to leverage Indian creativity, expertise, and resources to identify and scale innovative solutions being developed and tested in India to address development challenges that will benefit base of the pyramid populations across India and the world.

Clean Energy is one of the focus sectors of MA. As India’s economy charges ahead, the country needs to produce more energy to provide a better life for its people, many of whom live in rural areas and are very poor. At the same time, India has to deal with a global threat of climate change. This threat emanates from accumulated greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere, anthropogenically generated through long-term and intensive industrial growth and high consumption lifestyles in developed countries. MA will emphasize on voluntary initiatives to promote cleaner, climate-friendly technologies and improve environmental management practices to deal with the current threats.

Cygni is attempting to solve this world’s largest infrastructure challenges today by providing reliable, affordable and cost-efficient power Inverter-less solution. The device developed in collaboration with IITM, is a game-changer and has the potential to light up homes with no access to electricity or limited access. Target market: peri-urban, rural and other areas with no or near off-grid conditions.

Solar DC Microgrid

Introduction:

The Solar-DC Inverter-less controller has been developed based on the current global trends of increasing relevance of distributed energy, generation through rooftop solar and savings through energy efficiency. Its salient features include:

Remote monitoring

The data could then be pushed onto the cloud enabling remote monitoring, and cloud-based analytics.

Challenge:
In India, of the 80 million homes, about 32% households are off-grid. Another 30-40 million homes are near off-grid, where the power availability is intermittent. India’s total domestic consumption is 200 TWh (terra-watt hours) per year for 1.25 billion people (average of ~500 Wh/day per person). Average power consumption for grid-connected homes is only 4 kWh per day as 33% homes do not have power.

Cygni’s stall at the Millennium Alliance Innovation Conclave in New Delhi, an industry event organized by USAID and DST, Govt. of India, witnessed positive encouragement from the Indian industry.
